Big Bowl Noodle House

This is an overdue post. Unfortunately for Dr. Yenjai, this is another food post. :P

I went to Big Bowl Noodle House few weeks ago. In fact, my first time there was after my final exam last November with some of my friends.

Big Bowl Noodle House.

Open 6 days a week, it serves seriously big bowls of noodle. You will know what I mean when you proceed on reading this.

Address and phone number.

It is situated at the China Town here in Perth. In case you couldn't see the address clearly (reflection of the light), it is at 408, William Street, Northbridge 6004.

Look at the board on the wall.

It is just a small noodle house with approximately 10 or less small tables. I went there two times at which, all the tables were occupied.

Noodle makers.

What makes this noodle house "interesting" is that, the noodle is freshly made by the machines. There is raw noodle for sale, too. However, I'm not sure how much it costs though.

"What would you like?"

There are all sorts of food to order. Of course, you can eventually tell what's famous in this restaurant through the name of this restaurant. ;) The price of a bowl of noodle is between Aud$9-Aud$12. A bit pricey for students.

Pork Chop Noodle.

I ordered for a bowl of Pork Chop Noodle that day. It came generously with 3 pieces of pork chop and some Bak Choy. One word for the soup, "YUMMILICIOUS!" It's boiled with pork bones and I don't think it contains any monosodium glutamate (MSG). It's naturally sweet. Best if you have it during winter. ;)

Grilled Chicken Noodle.

My friend's Grilled Chicken Noodle was not bad too. It also came with few pieces of marinated grilled chicken. Again, it was served with Bak Choy. If my memory serves me right, this bowl of soup was different from mine! I'm sorry, I just couldn't remember what's the difference in the taste.

Thick noodle.

Thin noodle.

There are two types of noodles you can choose from. I opted for the thick noodle while my friend preferred the thin noodle. Both types tasted as good as they are smooth and chewy. The texture is just nice for my liking. :)

Pork and Pickle Veg. Noodle.

Baked Mushroom and Chicken Noodle.

Baked Mushroom and Bacon Noodle.

Those were the noodle my friends and I had during my first visit to this noodle house. I have no idea why all of us chose the "dry" noodle. We made a huge mistake that time as the soup tasted heavenly good! The Baked Mushroom and Chicken Noodle and Baked Mushroom and Bacon Noodle have nothing to shout about. They're just spaghetti for me with lots of cheese!

I like the "ladle". :P

Despite the huge servings, my friends and I managed to finish everything. You can tell how delicious is the noodle, eh? I strongly recommend this noodle house to everyone!

Minor Changes

I am supposed to either write a new post or change the layout of this old-fashioned-template (blog 1 year old already leh). I am quite tired and busy to do so. Therefore, I decided to only tweak some minor changes to this blog.

First, I have added a "Do You Know?" section at the sidebar.

Do You Know?

Basically in this section, I'll post up some random but interesting facts from time to time. I think this way, we can indirectly increase our knowledge. :)

I have decided to link the blogs which I read under "Blogs Better Than Mine".

Blogs Better Than Mine.

I know it's a bit late to link. However, better than never, eh? For those blogs under the list, I hope you don't mind I link to you. Please let me know if you think you should be removed from the list. Thank you! :)

I'll find some time to change the template. Anyone has any suggestions? Or anyone care to help me with this? Please let me know. Thanks. ;)

P/s: I'll have a post update maybe tomorrow.

Blog Apocalypse - If This Is My Final Post

I was tagged by Clare some time back but I just don't have the time to complete it. It was about Blog Apocalypse. But seriously, do you think this will happen? Anyway, Urban Monk initiated this tag and for every bloggers who take up the tag and link back to him, he'll put aside 1 dollar until it reaches 500 dollars for charity. Great idea, don't you think so? :)

Blog Apocalypse? If this was going to be my final post in this blog, there are only two things I would like to write. First, I would like to thanks all my readers from the bottom of my heart for their support. Without them, I think I would have closed down this blog long time ago.

Next, I would post my contact details. Although the blogosphere has come to an end, I don't want the blog ring to end just like that. I still want to keep in touch with everyone who stops by my blog.

I definitely hope the this day won't come, what about you?

Since this is for charity, I would like to tag the following:
Mum In Miri
Dancing Queen
MeiYen
Xiu Long Bao

Dinner At...

Today, while I was walking to uni, there was this truck beeping at me. I stopped and looked towards the truck. The driver was waving at me. I thought, "Maybe this guy knows me". So I waved back. Upon reaching a traffic light, a cyclist waved at me again and I can be sure that I don't know him. Why were they waving at me? Am I too handsome today? *Scratching my head*

Anyway, I'm going to write a review on the food of a particular restaurant here in Perth. It has been a long time since I wrote a food post. We had a sumptuous dinner two days back, thus, here's the food review.

Cuttlefish/Sotong with belacan.

The first dish was cuttlefish. It was cooked with belacan, mixed vegetables and sliced onions. Chris claimed it was a bit too spicy though.

Steak with barbeque sauce.

The second dish was steak with barbeque sauce. It was not fried but baked instead. Less oil, more healthy. It still tasted great!

Chai Xin with garlic.

How could we left out vegie for dinner? A plate of vegie on the table is a must for dinner. Therefore, I decided to have Chai Xin for that night. It was stir fried with just garlic and oyster sauce. Of course, judging from its look, it was not as tasty as the stir fried brussel sprouts by Rasa Malaysia. But once you try it, you will not regret.

Guess how much altogether? You won't believe your eyes. It only costed us less than Aud$15 for the entire dinner. Not a bad deal huh?

The restaurant is located somewhere near Mounts Bay Road. The chef only cooks for a small amount of people at one night. Hence, reservation/booking is required. For your info, the one holding the wok is...

Chef Kok.

the not-so-famous, Chef Kok!

Fishing a Mermaid?

Holidays but having a hole in your pocket for expensive activities?

From left to right: Chris, Kok, Brian, Louis and Jono.

You can consider fishing. I think fishing is one of the cheapest activities you can find in Perth! Last Monday, few of my friends and I decided to go fishing. It was a cold, windy night. However, this didn't stop us from stepping our feet on Claremont's secret jetty for fishing.

Brian with a really huge fish.

Less than half an hour, Brian shouted for joy. It was an indication that "some thing" manage to catch his hook. Indeed, he got himself a fish! It was quite a huge fish. We didn't catch a fish as huge as that in our previous fishing activity.

Fresh on the spot!

Since Jono brought a "handy stove" and a frying pan there, he decided to have the fish (from Brian) cooked.

Look who's the chef.

Jono was the chef for that night! He cleaned the fish in the nearby public toilet and cooked the fish fresh on the spot. No salt, no pepper. It's all about the freshness of the fish here.

Sausages with the fish.

We all decided to stop fishing after few hours of trying. No luck at all. All of us gathered around the small frying pan, waiting for the sausages and the fish to be cooked. Although we didn't manage to catch any fish, at least, we must made our stomach happy, right? ;)

Flat head.

I thought I might at least catch a fish or two for that night. I actually caught a flat head on my first time fishing at end of last year. Who knows this time round, I couldn't even catch a puffle fish! Anyhoo, I think I'm quite lucky though. Why?

"Pretty" mermaid.

Because I didn't catch this mermaid! Haha! :P

No matter what, I still enjoy this kind of outing. It is a way to get together aparts from seeing each other in uni. It's fun, it's relaxing. I'm looking forward for our next fishing activity. When will that be, guys?

P/s: Jono, don't get too angry. ;)

Race With Michael Schumacher!

After 1 hectic month of preparation, the day has finally arrived; go-karting event. I have put a lot of effort in it as this is the first event I have to organise for the international students of The University of Western Australia (UWA). My first individual task for International Student Service (ISS).

On the way to Wanneroo Kart Hire.

Despite some misunderstandings, we managed to depart from the uni on time. Time was very limited since we were going in a large crowd and the track is only opened from 9a.m. to 12p.m. on Saturday.

Some go karts at the entrance to welcome us.

We reached Wanneroo Kart Hire after a 45 minutes bus ride. I was quite excited when I first saw the kart track.

Racing go-karts.

When I stepped into this small building with all the go karts lining side by side, I was greeted by the lady boss, Julia. She is the lady who has helped me with all the preparation for this event.

For safety reasons, helmet is a must.

After all the participants had signed up, we were told to wait for further instructions/briefing.

Wanneroo Kartway Track.

This is the 1025 metres long track where it was used for the 2005 National Karting Championships. Seriously, I couldn't wait to race. You know, the rush to become Michael Schumacher (the most successful Formula 1 driver). :P

Ready?

It was a competition based racing. Each person has 2 laps of practice followed by 3 heats of 3 laps each. The fastest driver wins the race.

Can you guess who's that driver ahead?

After a short briefing, the race started! It is a fun and challenging sports I would say. I could smell the burning tires while racing till my heart almost popped out!

Don't block me!

At first, everyone went slow and steady. After the practice, you could see there's no need for the drivers to press on the brake pedal. Everyone, including the girls, went as fast as the wind.

Not driving? Be the spectators.

Considering only 10 people could go for each laps, most of us had to stay aside to become the spectators. Some even became the cheerleader for their friends.

I couldn't go faster than you but my head is harder than yours!

Some were not interested either, to become spectators or cheerleaders. So, they had to find some entertainment for themselves. Competition outside the track; whose head is harder. :P

"Get lost!"

Poor doggy. Some of them were trying to "disturb" her. But, in a good way, of course.

Schumacher's pose.

The race ended after about 2 and a half hours of race. You can roughly tell, I was not the fastest driver overall but I did enjoy the race till the end. I came last for the first lap (I need to avoid someone crashing into me, that's why ended up last!), third for the second lap and fourth for the third lap.

The winners with Julia.

Came first is David, followed by Eric and Kai Xin. Only the first place winner claimed a trophy from the Wanneroo Kart Hire. How I wish I can get that trophy. Anyway, luck was not with me though.

An Easter egg for Julia.

To thanks Julia for all the help she has offered, I gave her an Easter egg. It's a courtesy afterall. :)

Engineering buddies.

Thanks to all my friends who have been so supportive. Without them, this event wouldn't be that successful.

Group photo.

I have done my best. I hope everyone enjoys the race. I strongly recommend go karting to everyone who has not tried it before. Once you have tried it, you'll want it more. :)

What I have done/Experience
Prior to the event:
  • prepared briefing for the committee who were helping me with the sign up. Actually I didn't need to but then, I think it is essential to make sure everything goes smoothly.
  • designed and printed out the posters and flyers before sending them to the person in charge for approval (without approval, the posters and flyers cannot be distributed in the uni).
  • sent out emails to promote this event.
  • called bus company and go kart company for bookings.
  • determined a reasonable fee for the students so that the ISS won't lose any money and at the same time, the students can afford to pay it.
  • planned additional stuff such as to buy some Easter eggs for the participants to attract them for the next trip/event, to buy a souvenir for the go kart company and so on.
  • sent out email reminders to all the participants.
  • deal with last minute sign up which is what I don't like. The students had two weeks to sign up for the event and I don't see any point why they wanted to sign up last minute.
On the day of the event:
  • handled some leceh "customers".
  • collected the fees which some of the students haven't paid.
  • made sure everyone is happy with the event.
After the event:
  • settled the payments with the bus company and also the go kart company.
  • prepared an account for the event.
  • have to write a report for the event as well.
It's not easy to organise an event. Nevertheless, I like the satisfaction when everything has been done well. I look forward for my next event. At the mean time, I have to catch up with my studies which has been left untouched for quite some time.
