Dilemma...

I'm homeless back in Perth (I moved out from my place last year). I have a friend, Darren, currently helping me to look for a house to accomodate him, Chris and me.

I'm more comfortable to live near to the uni but again, there are limited places and also, the rental is a bit high. Whereas, if I was to live far away from uni, there are quite a number of houses to look at with reasonable price. The downside is, it's not even walking distance to uni!

I'm in my final year of uni this year and I expect to spend quite some time in uni, either to do my Final Year Project or some other works. And since I don't have a car, it's quite inconvenient for me to live far from uni. I don't want to depend on bus to go to and back from uni. If I was to live far from uni, I have to spend more on food for lunch or maybe dinner.

How, how? My preference would be to live near to uni... Hopefully, there'll be a house nearby to accomodate three of us. *Long sighhhhhh*

Sigh, I used to live far from the uni and had to take 2 buses to reach there, one from the house to the central station then change buses from there, no fun but can be done if need to. I usually plan to stay in the uni the whole day once I am there as cannot afford to go back and forth, in between classes, i would take that time to do homework and project in the library, then for lunch, I would pack sandwiches so as not to spend extra money, sometimes the student lounge has microwave I bring a small tupperware filled with some veggies in it and a packet of instant noodle, that way I can have a hot meal, buy one of those small cooler bags and fill it up with fruits, veggies, ham sandwich etc. Pack enough for snacks too so it can tie you through till end of day. Cheer up it's the final stretch of your educational marathon, you can and will do just fine. You have your blogger friends waiting to cheer when you wear your cap and gown.

yupes, i agree with firehorse. i stay REALLY far from uni too; take the train for 20 mins and then walk for 10 mins, every day. if i miss a train, i hv to wait one hr for the next. it's not the end of the world if you stay far from uni, "di mana ada kemahuan, di situ ada jalan". after one and a half years, i'm used to it already. you can always read ur notes in the train/bus, listen to some music while you walk.. and yes, if you stay far fr home, you won't be tempted to go home during breaks and waste some time onlining or sleepin. like firehorse, i do the same thing during breaks/in btwn classes. "lepak"-ing in the library is definitely better than at home where there are millions of distractions. and yeah, lunch isnt a problem cos i pack them too. it can really save you a lot of money, n time. plus, u can save on rent. In the long run, you can save a whole lot of money which can be put to better use than Convenience.

Convenience isn't everything; most of the time, it's just a BIG EXCUSE we give ourselves. when u hv no choice, u just gotta do it, like it or not.

Kok, don't rush into looking if you have temporary accomodation. In time, I'm sure you will find something which you will like and fairly close to uni.
Sometimes life as a overseas student can be hard on top of your studies but take it as a challenge.
Things will iron out itself.....

Yes, don't rush into getting a pad if you have the time. Hey, you'll probably be moving into a place you like, before you know it! Hang in there!

I can really feel your frustration there. Wish you good luck and may you find your dream place soon. Meanwhile, hang on tight alright.
