King Of Fruits

Durian season is back in Miri again! No matter which markets you go, you can enjoy the great aroma of durians.

Satu tompok RM10 (A group for RM10)

I don't know if you all like this King of Fruits or not, but for me, I kinda like it a lot. Not when I was small, I dislike the "awful" smell of durians and I just think durians tasted "uek".

RM10 for one of this.

Two days ago, my Baba together with me went to the market to buy just one durian. Yea, just one of it since it is about RM6 per kg. Kinda expensive when you can buy three for RM10. Cheap doesn't mean they are good, got what I mean? ;)

Look at the flesh...

My Baba and I finished the whole durian. Too bad my Mama and sis didn't get the chance to eat this since they were not at home. :P

The durian tasted great! Yummy! I haven't had any durian for quite a long time already.

Come, come! Open your mouth...

I think I should add some correction to what I have said earlier. I should also say, expensive doesn't mean they are good, too. Why? This is because, part of the durian had unexpected "guests" in it.

Durian fart.

After durian, there might be a possibility of durian fart from you. Run far far when you are about to fart. :P

One advice from me before I end this post. Do drink lots of water after you eat those durians. As the durians are quite "heaty", you might end up with sorethroat if you eat much and not drink any water. Remember this advice. :)

Kok,
I'm a 'durian queen' - those days lah! Can eat and eat and eat and yet not enough wan. Some more hor, I eat durians with rice during my meal time. Pour a bit of water over the rice and sprinkle with salt mix in the durian flesh. Hmmmm....d e l i c i o u s! But these days, due to old age, after finishing 2 whole durians must call it quits oledi! Ahh...sigh...I always thought the smell from the mouth is stronger than from a**!

Alamak! You are really 'durian queen' lah, ilene. Mix durian with rice. I never do that before lah. Maybe nowadays, durian very expensive hoh. Then, how can you buy so many durians and mix them with rice, right? hehe. Wow wow! You still can finish 2 whole durians ah? *Clap clap* I cannot even finish one whole durian lah! hahaha! Ya hoh, forgot, mouth also got the strong durian smell. Maybe another advice...should eat chewing gum after eating durian.

Kok,
U pandai tempt me hor! U know how much durian costs here - some more Thai durian but good quality one here. One Thai durian costs about 1,980yen (just find out the currency exchange rate yourself on the net or just about 3 times Malaysian ringgit). Tasted very good and better than those Thai durians back home. Bought twice over the years and only two biji sold at a store. I also ate durian with rice like Ilene.

wonda,
Aiks? I got tempt you meh? Nolah, I just post the durian photos in my blog and 'belanja' you makan only. haha! Wah! One durian cost about RM 50+? Not bad leh you. Rich rich also ah. One store only got 2 biji you also bought. hahaha! Actually RM 50+ also not really expensive lah. My baba and his friends ever ate those durians which cost RM70+ for 1 biji! (He just told me that day when we were heading home for that durian). Here the durian not Thai durian oh. Only local durian, picked from the orchard. Oh, you ever eaten any of those durians from the jungle one? That one also nice lah. They call those 'san liu lian'. Waiyo...both you and ilene are really 'durian queen' lah! I cannot challenge you two in durians ...hahaha!

Kok,
With 5% consumption tax here on everything, one Thai durian would cost about 70 ringgit and that was the cheapest I could find and it's imported from Thai, not Malaysian durian. Next year the consumption tax is rising to 10%.
Nolah. I only bought one and then years later, another one. Now not selling anymore. Ate jungle rambutans before but not jungle durians. How does it taste like? You pick it up yourself or they sell it.

cc: Welcome back! Having fun with your family? Yaya! I know. In Australia, the durians are sold in the oriental shops and all are frozen! My friend has to put it in microwave to defroze it! haha!

wonda: O_O 10% tax on everything? Alamak! So expensive! Better you save all the money, then come back Malaysia, eat till puas puas!:P How come not selling anymore? No people wanna buy ah? Jungle durian ah? It's smaller than the normal one. And then ah, the thorns are longer than the normal one. I don't know how to describe how it tastes leh. But my mama like it leh. Kok,
Does the jungle durian taste like the ordinary durian? Just curious. Ate Indonesian durian before and it tasted like Malaysian. Do you know that a graded melon (mi kua) costs 10,000yen each here? Chiak Kim ah!

Anonymous said...

Wa! Put in microwave to defroze?! Never thought of that. Haha.
Actually I am quite tempted to buy one everytime I go to the Chinese grocery here, but I doubt it tastes good.

Kok said...

wonda: The jungle durian ah, the flesh is a bit more yellowish than the normal one and i think, it's smell is bit more stronger than the normal one. WAAAHHHH! So expensive ah the honeydew melon! Come Perth. Sweet rockmelon/honeydew melon only cost you few Aud$.

cc: yaya! Believe it or not? Believe it. hahaha! Ermm...I think you better don't buy it. According to my friend, it's not that nice! Somemore, it takes you ages to open it.

Anonymous said...

Yea, not to mention all those durians probably have been kept in the freezer for ages. Plus, my husband can't stand the smell. He hates it with a passion. haha...

Kok said...

cc, yaya! Don't know how long they have kept them for. Huh? Your hubby doesn't like it huh? Seems like girls like durians more than guys...haha!

Anonymous said...

Aiya, Kok , you also MCC already ah? I asked you if the jungle durian taste like ordinary durian and you tell me about the color of flesh and the smell. Go straight to the point. YES or NO? Dat's all. Apa lu susah susah?

Kok said...

wonda,
maybe I got infected by the MC² which is spreaded by "someone". haha! Okla, since you want it short, then I'll say, it's not the same as the ordinary durian. Short enough? haha! Wonda, don't angry lah k? :P
