Tea Time? Or Dinner?

Today, instead of our usual dinner, Chris, Darren and I decided to try something different.

Kopitiam (Cafe) with no signboard/name.

Chris drove us all the way to Leederville to experience some of the best cakes in Perth (he claimed).

"Old" ambient.

It is not a high class cafe I would say. Just a small lot of shop with tables and chairs for the customers.

Simple.

You can choose to sit along the passageway just outside the cafe. A very simple design with milk crates as their tables.

Self-service.

Unlike most of the cafes where we only have to find our seats before a waiter/waitress comes and serves us, this cafe requires us to proceed to the counter, place our orders, pay for the orders and then, take our food to our seats.

Waiting for our orders.

It didn't take us long to have our cakes and drinks served.

Chocolate Mint Cake.

Darren ordered a slice of Chocolate Mint Cake, price at Aud$6 per piece. No doubt, it was one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever tried. It wasn't too sweet and the texture of the cake was just nice. However, the flavour of the mint was too light that I couldn't even taste it.

Pear Cheesecake.

Chris opted for a slice of Pear Cheese Cake. I think it costed him Aud$6 per slice, too, if I'm not wrong. Chris generously allowed me to taste the cake. Once I put it in my mouth, I nodded my head and told Chris, "Nice, nice! It's rich and creamy."

Lemon Meringue Pie.

As for myself, I blindly chose a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie. Why blindly? Because I don't know what is delicious there.

How about a bite?

What can I say about this pie? It's heavenly good! It's sweet, with a little bit of sour. The combination is just right for me. I couldn't figure out what's the filling of the pie. It's something like custard for me. Anyway, price again at Aud$6 per slice, I am really satisfied.

Darren's Flat White.

As for drinks, Darren ordered a cup of Flat White while Chris had a cup of Masala Chai (tea). For myself, a glass of sky juice.

Satisfied customer.

Despite only served with cakes, all of us came out from the cafe with full stomach. Bear in mind that, we were supposed to have our "dinner". So, if you are planning to visit this cafe, do not go in with a full stomach. ;)

130 Oxford St. Road.

This cafe, overall, earned a 4.5 out of 5 stars from me. If you're in Perth, why not give it a try? The address? 130 Oxford St. Road, Leederville, Perth. :)

The lemon meringue pie looks good. The filling is actually lemon curd. Basically lemon liked jam. Sometimes we use condensed milk with lemon juice to make the filling.

AUD$6.....mmmmm, after conversion I suppose it's pretty ok.

joe: Pricey meh? Cause I seldom have cakes at cafe, so I don't really know their price. hehe.

lynnwei: I bet there are some nice cakes at your place. Go try it out and share your photos!:P

Aunty Judy: Very hard to make or not ah? Seems very complicated leh...

Hmm, according to Joe, it's a bit pricey. But I'm not quite sure about that. How's the cake in UK? Expensive?

firehorse: Aiyooo, don't slurp your monitor. Later fatty boy thought you're something wrong leh. haha!

Kok, for you are such a good cook, I will say, "Not hard to make lah".

I make mine with condensed milk laid on biscuit base (like the cheesecake base) instead of pastry. Then all you do is beat egg whites till stiff and lay on top of your lemon curd and put in oven.

You want a trick recipe? Go buy the lemon curd (in jar like jam bottles).

If you feel like trying, I will send you recipe. I don't think it will cost you AUD$6 for the whole pie. Hehehe.

Aunty Judy: Alamak, I'm not a good cook lah. Just know a bit from here and there only. :P

Wow, sounds sooo complicated leh. I don't know whether I can make it or not. I better try out the recipe that you gave me first. If I can bake that cake successfully, then I'll get more recipe from you. :)

Less than Aud$6 for the whole pie? Sure or not? The lemon curd not expensive meh?

wmw: Yaya! haha! Everyone is blogging about desserts. :P
