Ipoh Hor Fun Soup

After soccer (which I have scored twice :P) with my uni mates, I went home but to find out that other housemates not at home for dinner. So, I followed Henry, Yoong and Jason for dinner with Jason's "new" car. He just got his car this afternoon.

The owner is on the right hand side.

We decided to go Ipoh Garden Restaurant at Applecross to have our dinner.

Ipoh Garden Restaurant.

It was my first time there. From the name of the restaurant, you can roughly tell that it offers Ipoh's delicacies. In case anyone doesn't know, Ipoh is actually a city in the state of Perak, Malaysia.

Ipoh Hor Fun Soup is one of the most popular dish in Ipoh.

I have heard about how nice the Ipoh Hor Fun Soup of this restaurant long time ago but I never had the chance to try it out.

Interior of the restaurant.

The interior design of the restaurant has nothing much to talk about. It's design is very simple.

What to eat?

I have no idea what to eat actually since it's my first time there. But I thought I will try their most famous Ipoh Hor Fun Soup.

"Our best selling Ipoh original, copied, but never perfected by non Ipohreans!"

When I saw that, I decided to order a bowl of Ipoh Hor Fun soup. I MUST give it a try. Jason ordered this too. And yea, I know it's a bit expensive. Aud$8 per bowl but it's quite a common price for dinner outside.

After about 10 minutes wait, the most famous Ipoh Hor Fun Soup was served on the table.

This is it. Famous Ipoh Hor Fun Soup.

It's soup is a bit hot. Something like curry. With shredded chicken meat and two prawns. Yea, two prawns only. But the prawns were juicy. No doubt, the seafood here in Perth is a lot more expensive than Malaysia.

Big prawn.

I, myself, find that the best part of Ipoh Hor Fun Soup is the Hor Fun itself. It's not the same as what I eat at Malaysia. The Ipoh Hor Fun Soup shares some similarity as the Penang Prawn Noodles back in Miri (the one near Mega Hotel, New Thompson). The soup almost taste the same and the ingredients are quite similar.

Henry's Seafood Wat Tan Hor (Fried Hor Fun with egg gravy)

I think this Seafood Wat Tan Hor is quite nice since they really fried the Hor Fun with soy sauce before they pour the gravy on top. Most of the restaurant here in Perth doesn't fried the Hor Fun with soy sauce. They simply fried it plain.

"What are you doing, Henry?"

I'm not sure if Henry did enjoy his food. His eyes turned white after looking at his Seafood Wat Tan Hor. :P

Ipoh Fried Hor Fun.

It's simply Fried Hor Fun. Nothing special though. Yoong ordered this.

A & W Root Beer!

You can actually find A & W Root Beer here. It cost Aud$2 a can (I'm not too sure about the price).

After dinner, cam sluts everywhere!

"Henry, don't hug so tight la!"

I want to take a photo, too.

We were so full. The bill came out almost Aud$50 including three cans of drinks which Henry and Jason drank. And oh yea, Jason did order a plate of bean sprout with salted fish which costed us Aud$9. I think I better stop my studies and plant bean sprout as a living. :P

Happy Belated Birthday, Singapore

I know, I'm not a Singaporean, but my housemate is. He went for the Singapore National Day celebration at the Uni's tavern with all the other fellow Singaporeans just now.

Free bag, free balloon, free Singapore "tattoo"!

Don't you think he looks like this?

Singapore flag.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, SINGAPORE!

Happening Weekends

Over the weekend, I was so busy. Not because of studies, but had lots of activities going on.

Saturday afternoon, my housemates, Chris, Henry and I went for a BBQ at Matilda Bay. A friend of Chris invited us there.

Then, we went to Subiaco to buy our groceries.

That's approximately two weeks groceries.

The table was not big enough for us to put everything on. We spent about Aud$220 for four persons on the groceries which includes meat, vege and also daily necessities.

Trying to act cute.

The whole saturday afternoon gone.

At night, Chris prepared a restaurant standard dinner for Henry and I.

Main course.

The main course includes mashed potato, chicken and also stir fried beef with capsicum.

Salad.

The main course was accompanied by a serve of salad. Fresh lettuces, canned kidney beans, crushed boiled eggs and button mushrooms are the ingredients of the salad. The salad was tossed with balsamic vinegar together with olive oil. The taste came out to be very special. Try it...

Toasted bread with tomato sauce.

We were also served with pieces of toasted bread which we could dip it either with tomato sauce or mixture of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

The great chef.

Wonderful dinner. Now everyone should know why I couldn't keep fit. :P

Later at night, Chris and Kok bakers were back in action!

Milk chocolate cake.

We baked this cake for Yan since his birthday is coming soon. We celebrated for him, by throwing a small BBQ party, on Sunday afternoon.

No longer beginner. Intermediate now!

Although 'electric mixer' is printed on the box, we still used our own way to mix everything for the cake.

No electric mixer? Not a problem.

After mixing everything, pour the mixture into a lightly greased baking tray.

Pour cake mixture into baking tray.

As usual, we covered the baking tray with aluminium foil before we stuffed it into our toaster.

We seriously need an oven?

The cake turned out not too bad this time after spreading the icing on top.

Yummy-licious.

Another cake which I think we have successfully baked.

First baker satisfied with the cake.

Second baker, just feel like finished up the whole cake.

Another cake which can be taken off from the supermarket shelves. How many more cakes we haven't baked? This cake tastes delicious. If you ever tried the "Nonya" cake, which has holes in it (catch what I mean?), then, you will know what's the taste of this cake. Suprisingly, it's almost 90% same as the Nonya cake. Overseas student, if you miss the Nonya cake, try to grab a packet of Cadbury Chocolate Cake and bake it. I'm sure you will like it. :)

Sunday started off with our BBQ party for Yan at Matilda Bay. Six of us supposed to be there which included Yan, Darren, Clara, Chris, Henry and I but... Yan, who is the VIP for that day, overslept as he has been working non stop. So, the party went on without the VIP.

BBQ while enjoy the scenery.

It's one of the activities which the Australians like to do during the weekend.

Free BBQ pit for use.

Just turn the black knob and BBQ will start automatically. Simple.

You see? Sometimes I have no reason why I don't like Australia. They provide most of the facilities for the public to use for FREE!

Chris, where's your eyes?

Weather for that day had not been very good. Rained and stopped and rained again. We had to quickly cook all the stuff before it started to rain again.

Part of the food.

We finished up all almost all the food before we went back. BBQ was not fun without the VIP. But that's not the end, Yan appeared at our house at about 6p.m. And look what he got?

Happy birthday, Yan!

We saved some cake for him which we didn't finish up during the BBQ in the afternoon.

"I wish...."

We celebrated Yan's birthday earlier so that if there are anymore birthday party for him, he still can have more wishes. :P

Finish everything, please!

Since he was not there for the BBQ, we punished him with all the food which was leftover from the BBQ. Chris even made him salad to add on his punishment.

Yan with his birthday presents.

Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YAN! :)

It was a very tiring weekend but then, I enjoy it till the end. Looking forward for the next weekend.;)

My Sis at Perth (Day 3)

To kick off my sis' third day at Perth, my cousin brought us to Fremantle. We visited my cousin's office before we went to Cicerello for lunch. Cicerello is famous with it's fish and chips. If you are to visit Perth, try the fish and chips.

My sis with an aquarium in Cicerello.

Loads of people having lunch there that day. We had two serves of fish and chips and a serve of seafood platter.

My sis first time having fish and chips.

I couldn't believe that's my sis first time having fish and chips. Adelaide doesn't have fish and chips meh?

Cicerello.

After the lunch, my cousin wanted some ice cream. So, we went Baskin Robbins.

One enough?

I didn't have one since I was too full for it. Have been eating non stop for that few days. Fat fat! :P

Since my cousin had something to do in the office, I, again, became my sis' personal tour guide. I brought her to the Fremantle Market.

The uncle behind was trying to make some funny face.

We didn't spend too much time in the market since we had limited time. We went around Fremantle town after that.

Adelaide?

It's just Adelaide Street. My sis still at Fremantle. I later brought my sis to the Roundhouse to just take a look. It is the oldest remaining building in Western Australia.

Bro and sis.

I later asked my sis to take some photo behind the Roundhouse which has beautiful scenery.

"Chiew Lee was here."

After taking some photos there, we then rushed back to Cicerello cause there's one brewery nearby which I think is quite special. Little Creatures brews one of the best beer which I have ever tasted.

Little Creatures, with a cupid as it's logo.

In there, many people hold a glass of beer in their hand and chit chat while some of them have their lunch with beers.

So relax.

I regret that I didn't order a glass of beer and then share it with my sis. Should let her try Western Australia's beer.

Beers everywhere.

After spending three or four hours at Fremantle, my cousin then brought us to Cotteslaw Beach.

Beautiful beach.

I went back to my house in Perth instead of my cousin's place after that. My sis followed my cousin back as she was to send her to the airport the next day for Adelaide.

Although it was just a short trip, I think my sis do enjoy the three days at Perth. Come again next time, sis! :)
